This course is ideal for all levels of dressmakers. For beginners who want to understand the essential first steps in creating a well-fitting garment or for the more advanced would like to improve their dressmaking skills. You’ll learn how to accurately take measurements, read a pattern, and create a toile (a practice version of a garment made from calico — a crucial part of the design and fitting process. The pattern attendees pick for the workshop should be according to their skill level or more advanced for those who already do dressmaking.

 How to take and apply accurate body measurements
 How to read and interpret dressmaking patterns
 Pattern preparation and fitting considerations
 Cutting techniques for precision
 How to sew a toile using basic construction methods
How to assess fit and make basic adjustments


What to Bring:

  • A dressmaking pattern (recommended options provided upon booking)

  • Calico for the toile

  • Fabric scissors 

  • Pins, tape measure, fabric marker

  • Your sewing machine (you should be comfortable using it)
