Join our hands-on quilting workshop and learn how to make your very own baby quilt from start to finish. This course is designed especially for complete beginners to quilting – all you need is confidence using your sewing machine. The course will be taught by Joan who is a quilting extraordinaire. The course will run in Deerpark Community Hub, Carlanstown from 6th Oct to 17th Nov with a break on 27th Oct.

Course Overview

Over six weekly sessions, you’ll build your skills step by step:

Weeks 1–3:

• Learn about essential quilting tools

• Cutting and pressing techniques

• Explore layout options

• Begin piecing your quilt top

Weeks 4–6:

• Add wadding and backing

• Learn how to bind your quilt

• Finish with hand-sewn binding techniques

What You'll Learn:

The function and use of key quilting tools
 Accurate cutting and layout techniques
 How to align and sew fabric pieces
 Pressing for neat, flat seams
 Adding wadding and backing fabric
 Binding and hand-finishing for a polished result

What You’ll Need:

• A sewing machine (you must be confident using it)

• Cutting mat

• Rotary cutter

• Quilting ruler

• Fabric (a full supply list will be provided upon booking)

Please note: If you don’t already have these tools, factor in the cost of purchasing them when enrolling.

This course is a perfect introduction to quilting, combining machine sewing with simple hand-finishing techniques to give you a complete foundational skillset. You'll leave with a beautiful handmade baby quilt and the confidence to start more projects on your own!
